20 HOMES LOST IN LONG LAKE WILDFIRES
Fire Remains Out Of Control
USPA NEWS -
Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources has reported that the Long Lake wildfire complex doubled in size on August 24th, resulting in the loss of 20 homes as the fires spread through the community of West Dalhousie, destroying homes on West Dalhousie Road, Thorne Road, and Morse Road.
The aerial fleet includes 11 helicopters, six planes, and bird dogs, and ground personnel comprise 12 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters, 89 Ontario firefighters, and 70 local firefighters, supported by more than 70 heavy equipment operators.
Crews had a very productive day yesterday, working on flanks and aiming to limit the growth and spread toward communities as drier conditions return.
The fire scene remains active, and it is not yet safe for property owners, insurance professionals, or other services to enter. Our crews will persist in their efforts to protect Nova Scotians, their residences, and our forests by diligently battling this fire until it is fully extinguished.
